Simple steps to grow your beard faster

Everyone who’s ever tried to grow a beard will know how difficult it can be. For some time you’ll feel as though your beard has a mind of its own, then you’ll get the dreaded beard itch and eventually you might just want to give up and shave it all off. However, with the month of Movember fast approaching, you might be looking for some tried and tested tips to grow your facial hair faster.

Eat the right foods

As with most things, the vitamins and nutrients that you eat can have an effect on how fast your hair grows. Of course, testosterone plays an important role and to keep this up you’ll need to make sure you have adequate levels of zinc, vitamin D and magnesium. Zinc can be found in red meat and vegetables like broccoli and spinach, to get enough vitamin D you’ll need to make sure you’re eating oily fish and eggs and to top up your magnesium levels opt for almond and cashew nuts.

Avoid trimming

At first, the wild forest that is your beard might be desperately in need of some maintenance but resist the urge to trim it or do any beard grooming whatsoever, and you’ll certainly see the benefits. Once you’ve reached the 4-6 week mark, you can begin to groom but remember that the idea of trimming the hair makes it grow thicker and faster is nothing but a myth.

Invest in beard oil

A beard oil that contains natural oils such as jojoba and argan can promote hair growth because they provide both your skin and the hair follicles with the oil they need. Some beard oils contain extra ingredients such as vitamin E and natural antioxidants that can repair any damage that has been done to your hair’s cellular membranes.  Because it can work as a moisturiser, beard oil will also prevent the dreaded beard itch that causes many people to give up the growth.

Exercise and get enough rest

Life choices such as exercise can also have an effect on the quickness of your beard growth. You should aim to elevate your heart rate for up to an hour every day, and if you do this, your testosterone levels will soar. As well as this, you’ll need to make sure you’re getting enough rest so that your body can relax, minimise stress and maintain your immune system. A weak immune system will almost certainly hinder hair growth.

Take care of your skin, too

Yes, you might have come across some weird and wonderful methods to promote beard growth, but one of the easiest ways is to simply look after your skin. Wash your face twice daily with a good product and avoid hot water as this can dry up your skin. Afterwards, always apply moisturiser and go for one that contains vitamin B5 as this can promote circulation, something that essential for hair growth.
