9 Simple Things You Can Do To Improve Your Lifestyle

We’re lucky to live in an age where people actually care about what they put into their body and just want to live longer – because why wouldn’t you?! But there’s a lot of stuff out there to distract us from pretty much anything we need or want to do. Netflix, social media and smart phones to name but a few. All accessible at our fingertips, all of the time – and let’s be honest, it’s hardly productive. I mean yes, you may get a feeling of great accomplishment when you finish watching the entire series of Breaking Bad, but what has it all been for?!
Keeping a healthy routine can easily fall by the wayside with these distractions but doing it little by little is bound to help you maintain a way of life you can be proud of!
Here are 9 simple things you can do to improve your lifestyle.

Eat veg at almost every meal

It’s fairly obvious. You can’t just go about eating hamburgers and pizza and expect to be in tip top shape! Adding in a side of veg to every meal is a great way of keeping that 5 a day intake up! If you can’t eat veg at every meal, why not have a piece of fruit afterwards for a dessert?

Habits not willpower

People seem to think it takes a lot of effort to keep up with a regime, when in fact, you only need to work on it for a while before it becomes a habit! The pieces soon fall into place and you won’t even realize you’re doing it.

Go to sleep when you’re tired 

There’s a window of time from about 8pm to 12am that is recommended for you to hit the hay in order to get a good night’s sleep. Within that window, don’t force it, go to bed when you’re naturally tired. A good night’s sleep is anything from 7 to 9 hours, so as long as you don’t overdo it, the 8pm to 12am window should be fine.

On the go workouts

Life moves far too fast for us to keep up with it most days. Remember that thing about habits? Many people who say they will start going to the gym never actually follow through on it. On-the-go workouts help you to work out without taking any more time from your busy day! Got kids? They make the perfect little make-shift weights!!!

Shop outside the supermarket

Fresh is best. Whenever possible, it’s good to get good quality fruit, veg and meat from a traditional green-grocers or butchers. You are more than likely to get a better deal and quality than you would at the supermarket. Plus, you can’t beat that authentic smell of a butcher’s shop!

Stay hydrated

Staying hydrated is a major factor in keeping high energy levels throughout the day. Not only does it help combat fatigue, but it also helps prevent premature ageing signs. Our skin needs that hydration on the inside as well as the outside.

Reading helps you to reduce stress. If you’re fully immersed in a really good book, hours can go by before you even realise you’ve lost yourself in it! It helps to stimulate the mind and is also a great source of knowledge or entertainment! So, get off Facebook, set the phone to silent, pick up a book and relax!

Meditate

Cool, calm, collected. Meditation is all about the breathing. 20 minutes of meditation in the morning and also in the evening can work wonders for your mind, body and soul. Time is precious, and most people just don’t have the time to spend 40 minutes a day breathing. But short bursts of 5 minute deep breathing through the day can also help!

Life is long, and people change. Sometimes the best thing to do is to change your whole perception on life. Be more loving, show people you care day-after-day! Waking up every day and kicking yourself for not being good enough or healthy enough is going to impact your lifestyle in more ways than you can imagine. Take the time to build a personality and a way of thinking that benefits you as well as everyone else.
I guess we could all do a little more in the way of leading and maintaining a healthy life. It shouldn’t be a drag, it should just come naturally. Just because you forgot to have some peas with your fish and chips doesn’t make you a bad person! Little changes to your lifestyle can go a long way. When they become habits, you won’t even realise you’re doing it and it won’t seem so much of a chore!
